Qualities Of Coaching

Introduction: Readers will understand what are the fundamentals of coaching a basketball team and how to obtain leadership from coaching.

                                                                   Narrative Story
My love of basketball started when I was a little kid. I had always dreamed of going to a NBA basketball game. In my fifth grade that dream had finally came true. On a bus ride, to what would be a great field trip, I was filled with an abundance of excitement. I was so anxious to see the hard work and determination the players had towards the game. I couldn't wait any longer to step my foot in where memories are never forgotten and where amazing truly happens.

I'm frantically waiting to get in the doors to witness greatness. As I walked in my eyes grew bold of the mammoth structure. I felt as if I never seen such enormous building in my entire life. It was breath taking. The sight of gigantic T.V's and the aromas of hot dogs, burgers, and churros filled the arena from every direction. As we got to our seats up on the top of the arena I could feel the cold air pressing against my face. Being at such great height sent chills up my spine but nothing was going to stop me from enjoying what would be a sensational basketball game, not the cold, not the seat, and not my fear of heights.

There it was; the moment we've all be waiting for, the mane attraction and what would be the holy grail of my attention. I could hear thousands upon thousands of fans screaming and shouting for the Los Angeles Lakers. Suddenly I could feel a rush of adrenaline taking over my body. It caused me to chant and scream. It felt like all that excitement that was building up was finally being unleashed. Then at that moment the lights flickered off, and there were spot lights illuminating on the court floor. All of a sudden basketball players rushed on the court in their yellow and purple jerseys following behind them was the head coach. He came on the court with outstanding posture and had great zeal which made him notable to the fans in the stadium. The game gets kicked off even at the start of the game with not even a second spared the coach feeds the team motivation. With the morale of the team boosted the coach seems as if he has a sense of determination and positive attitude towards winning the game. At that moment I fell head over heels with coaching and I knew what I wanted to be. An to think one day, I could be apart of something truly great like this.

Reading Life

My reading goal was to read 10 books this year, I can gladly say that I successfully met that goal. My reading life has changed dramatically which in the end caused me to reach my reading goal. I had started finding books that I really found an interest in and it drove me to read more abundantly. It also opened my mind up to more different genres of books that I normally don't read. The books I have read this year are Life Of Pi, The Sorceress, Russell Rules, The Rangers Apprentice, Room, A List Of Things That Didn't Kill Me, The Graveyard Book, Once, Then, Now, Spook, The Extra, Sarah's Key, Hororstor, Miss Peregrines House Of Peculiar Children, Hollow City, and 3039 . All the books I have read, I have enjoyed but none of which are as fascinating as the book Russell Rules. The book really gives important information about leadership skills and how to be a winner and since I am an athlete there was a lot of benefits to reading the book. The hardest book I have read was was 3039. There are many reasons why it was so difficult to read. One reason was because the vocabulary words were so complicated and it took me a long time to get threw one chapter without picking up a dictionary. Another reason is because the book was very long it was around five hundred pages so it took me quite a wile to gain interest in the stories line. My greatest area of strength as a reader I would say is identifying rhetorical or figurative language that the author uses to give the story emotional appeal. I still fill like I need to read a lot more books then I normally read I also suffer from reading because the lack of vocabulary that I don't understand so I need to improve my vocabulary to read harder books. Being apart of a reading community has benefited me in plenty of ways. One way is that it helped me push myself to learning more about different forms of language that authors uses to write novels.

Oppression ( Jimmy Santiago Baca)

Jimmy Santiago Baca is an accomplished Latin American poet who wrote appealing poems about his experiences in the Arizona state prison. One eye-opening poem that caught my attention is called " Oppression". I scrutinized the poem very carefully and it seems that the poem is about, how to endure the suffering and adversity of living caged behind bars. Baca began to use descriptive word choice when he says " unshed tears" because it took strength to keep the emotions bottled up inside from being in prison. When he uses metaphors like the feeling of "being trampled under" that gives the reader sentiment of empathy because it as well as shows  distress and difficulties of being imprisoned in the penitentiary. In the middle of the poem Baca began to change his attitude towards being locked away and he states that one should " look deep to find the grains of hope and strength". That symbolizes that its okay to be locked away and that one should be bold of the dangers and horridness that lurk in the walls of the jailhouse. Lastly at the end of the poem Baca articulates that " fiery spears will count your years "I feel like he's trying to insinuate that " you reap what you sow". So basically you do something wrong you get more jail time and that would be something to keep in mind. I as the reader have been given an abundance of advice from Baca because there have been times I felt like I was kept in a prison from society. In this poem Baca teaches not only prisoners but he also taught me how to overcome suffering and adversity by staying strong and being bold. Above all I feel that Baca's intended meaning is to help us subdue the fears and the sorrows of being caged in our own physical and mental prisons.
